Why We Collect Your Information

Olanna exists to help women understand their reproductive health with clarity, compassion, and confidence. To offer personalised insights, predictions, and support, we collect a small amount of information — always with your permission and always handled with care.

We are a wellness tool, not a medical service.


What We Collect

1. Personal Details You Choose to Share

  • Your name or nickname
  • Email address (to help you log in and recover your account)
  • Phone number (if you choose to add it)
  • Messages you send to us

2. Cycle and Wellness Information

The heart of Olanna

This helps us personalise your experience:

  • Period dates
  • Cycle symptoms
  • Ovulation-related information
  • Fertility or pregnancy-related entries
  • Mood, energy, lifestyle notes

This data is sensitive, and we treat it with the highest level of care as required by POPIA.

3. Device and Usage Information

To ensure the app works smoothly:

  • How you use the app
  • Device type
  • Operating system
  • IP address
  • Cookies and analytics for remembering your preferences

You can turn off cookies in your browser settings, but some features may not work.


How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  1. Provide, personalise, and improve your Olanna experience
  2. Give accurate cycle predictions
  3. Troubleshoot and improve app performance
  4. Send helpful reminders, updates, and support messages
  5. Create anonymised insights that help us improve women's health (these cannot identify you)
  6. Protect our users and comply with the law

We do not use your data to make automated decisions about your life.
We do not serve targeted ads based on your personal or health information.


How We Share Your Information

We may share your data only with:

  • Trusted service providers who help us run Olanna (e.g., hosting, analytics).
  • Other apps or people only when you enable sharing, like syncing with Apple Health.
  • Authorities only when legally required.
  • Another company only if Olanna is acquired, but you'll be notified.

We never sell your information — not now, not ever.


Your Rights (POPIA - South Africa)

You have the right to:

  • Be notified when your data is collected
  • Ask whether we hold your information
  • Access your personal data
  • Correct or delete your information
  • Object to how your information is used
  • Refuse marketing messages
  • Ask not to be profiled
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator

You remain the owner of your information.


Keeping Your Data Safe

We store your information securely using encryption, secure servers, and restricted access. If anything ever compromises your data, we'll notify you as required by POPIA.


Children

Olanna is not intended for anyone under 16. If we learn that a child's information was collected, we delete it immediately.


How Long We Keep Your Information

We keep your data only as long as needed to:

  • Provide the service
  • Comply with the law
  • Resolve issues

If you delete your account, we remove your data — and keep only anonymous statistics (which cannot identify you).
